Seeds of Resistance
Ukraine's national flower and important crop, sunflowers, are dimensional in this piece with tiny people (architectural model figures), Ukrainian citizens, being the seeds of resistance, the architects of their own destiny. As David French puts it in the New York Times, "Ukrainian valor is breathtaking."

The World Watches
I started this piece early 2022 with the inset titled, The World is Watching, as though our vigilance had the power to stop the invasion. As Ukraine was systematically destroyed, I expanded the piece, mounting the watching world atop and apart from the destruction: Ukrainians die, The World Watches.

Little Brother
Russia declared in 2022 that they needed to attack Ukraine to bring their "little brother'" back into the fold. Turns out their goal is the total destruction of their supposed sibling.
I used building bricks -- a child's toy -- to construct the destroyed and burning apartment building on a cradled wood panel.

It Begins, Ostriv Zmiinyi
On February 24, 2022, an image of a monster rising from the deep to destroy a peaceful place came to me when a warship attacked Snake Island in the Black Sea. For this painting I used acrylics, ink, then varnished the painting with liquid-glass in places to contrast with matte varnish in others.

Art, for me, is about creating visual stories meant to inspire the viewer to contemplate, to react, to make connections between the artwork & the wider world.
